A Summer Evening in Harpa - Snjólaug + GDRN & Magnús Jóhann

A new series of stand-up comedy and live music in Harpa’s beautiful Norðurljós (Northern Lights) hall. There is plenty of fun for foreign visitors and locals with laid-back comedy club-style seating and a bar set up inside the auditorium.

The evening starts with a hilarious stand-up comedy show in English, followed by a live concert after the short intermission in between. Duration: 2 hours.

On Friday, July 5th, the performers are comedian Snjólaug and the musical duo GRDN & Magnús Jóhann.

SNJÓLAUG
Snjólaug is one of Iceland's funniest comedians. With her sharp wit, she pokes fun at Icelandic culture, motherhood, snoring partners, wellness hippies who swim in the ocean, and lots of other pointless things.

GDRN & MAGNÚS JÓHANN
The singer GDRN and pianist Magnús Jóhann have frequently performed as a duo since they released the album ‘Tíu íslensk sönglög’ (Ten Icelandic Songs) in 2022. It contains ten songs sung by GDRN with accompaniment by Magnús in the duo’s arrangements and has been very popular. The album’s tracklist includes many Icelandic treasures such as ‘Rósin,’ ‘Hvert örstutt spor,’ ‘Vikivaki,’ and one original song, ‘Morgunsól.’ On July 5th, they will perform Icelandic musical gems and a few GDRN songs in the Norðurljós Hall of Harpa. Concert attendees can expect a delightful evening filled with the heartwarming atmosphere found on the album.

Guðrún Ýr Eyfjörð, better known as GDRN, has made a significant impact on the Icelandic music scene since she released her first album, ‘Hvað ef’ (What if), in 2018. That album received numerous music awards, a nomination for the Nordic Music Prize, and garnered much attention. Since then, she has released many songs in collaboration with other artists and another album, ‘GDRN,’ in 2020. She worked on her second album in collaboration with Magnús Jóhann, whom she met at the FÍH Music School a few years earlier. On March 22, 2024, she released a new solo album, ‘Frá mér til þín’ (From Me to You), which has a slightly more pop sound compared to her previous albums. The album was a collaboration with Þormóður Eiríksson.

Magnús Jóhann Ragnarsson has recently been highly active in the Icelandic music scene as a pianist, producer, composer, and more for numerous artists. He has released four solo albums, one EP, and a duo album with bassist Skúli Sverrisson. He was named Performer of the Year at the Icelandic Music Awards in 2023 and has recently been in charge of music direction for the TV show ‘Idol.’ Bubbi Morthens, Friðrik Dór, Bríet, Ingibjörg Turchi, Stuðmenn, and Moses Hightower are among the diverse artists he has collaborated with.
